Field Visit to Bemina: Experiential Learning on Special Education and Activity Planning by 3rd Semester Human Development Students

On 27th November 2025, the students of 3rd Semester (Human Development), Institute of Home Science, University of Kashmir, visited Chotay Taray Foundation and Shafaqat Special School, Bemina as part of their applied learning in child development and special education.

The visit focused on three major academic components:

  1. Planning and Execution of Activities for Children with Special Needs
Students designed and conducted activities for children with visual impairment, hearing impairment, and intellectual disabilities. The experience helped them understand adaptive teaching methods, individualized attention, and the importance of structured learning environments.

  2. Individual Case Study of a Child with Disability
Each student engaged in observing and documenting a detailed case study, focusing on the child’s developmental profile, abilities, challenges, and support needs. This activity strengthened their practical understanding of assessment and intervention planning.

  3. Institutional Case Study of Shafaqat Special School
Students examined the school’s structure, teaching methodologies, therapeutic services, and overall functioning. This allowed them to understand how institutions support holistic development, rehabilitation, and inclusion of children with disabilities.

The field visit provided meaningful exposure to real-life educational settings, deepened students’ sensitivity toward diverse developmental needs, and enhanced their competencies in assessment, activity planning, and inclusive education practices.
