Field Visit to Pampore: Hands-on Learning of Space-Related PRA Methods by 1st Semester Home Science Students

On 26th November 2025, the students of 1st Semester (Extension and Communication), Institute of Home Science, University of Kashmir, undertook an educational field visit to Pampore as part of their practical exposure to Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) techniques.

During the visit, students actively engaged in space-related PRA methods, including:

  • Social Mapping – to understand community structure, settlements, and dynamics

  • Resource Mapping – to identify and visualize natural, physical, and social resources within the locality

  • Mobility Mapping – to analyze movement patterns, access, and usage of facilities by different community groups

The field experience enabled the students to interact directly with the community, observe real-life applications of PRA tools, and develop critical skills in participatory assessment and community engagement. The visit served as a valuable practical component, reinforcing classroom learning through experiential, on-ground understanding.
