On 27th November 2025, the students of 1st Semester Human Development (Batch 2025), Institute of Home Science, University of Kashmir, visited Chotay Taray Foundation and Shafaqat Special School, Bemina as part of their foundational practical exposure to special education and developmental assessment.
The visit centered around two major academic components:
-
Assessment of Institutions for Children and Adolescents with Disabilities
Students observed and evaluated the institutional setup, infrastructure, services, staff roles, therapeutic support, and teaching-learning environment provided for children and adolescents with diverse disabilities. This helped them understand how specialized institutions function to meet developmental, educational, and psychosocial needs.
-
Planning and Execution of Activities for Children with Special Needs
The students designed and conducted simple activities tailored for children with visual impairment, hearing impairment, and intellectual disabilities. This hands-on experience enabled them to learn about adaptive techniques, meaningful engagement, and approaches to support learning and social interaction among children with special needs.
The field visit enriched students’ understanding of inclusive care, strengthened their sensitivity toward differently-abled individuals, and provided valuable insight into real-world practices in special education and disability support.
